“THE CHURCH WHERE YOU BELONG!”

HISTORY. VISION. MISSION. LEADERSHIP.
The History of Christ Church Apostolic
Christ Church Apostolic was founded by Bishop James E. & Lady Evelyn Tyson. After completing a Kingdom assignment as Pastor of Christ Temple Apostolic Faith Assembly, Indianapolis, IN, on February 22, 1976, God impressed upon Bishop James E. Tyson to embark upon A NEW VISION and sent out a clarion call for the Saints to gather at the (former) Zion Tabernacle Church, located at 3302 N. Arsenal, Indianapolis, IN, where Suff. Bishop Joseph D. Farris was the Pastor.

The attendance was purely voluntary. Upon entering the sanctuary, one could feel the anointing and presence of God powerfully – the saints were on one accord and prayerful and moved by the spirit as Bishop informed them he would start another church – on Wednesday, February 23, 1976, from that assembly of approximately 350 members, the vision began!

Many members of Christ Temple left the only church home they knew – some after fifty years – this decision caused families to divide, longtime friends became enemies, some Saints lost their jobs, others were forced to change residence, including Bishop and First Lady Evelyn Tyson and their family – and the media went into a frenzy!

On Friday, February 25, 1976, Bishop Tyson obtained Ebenezer Lutheran Church (now Indiana Baptist Church), located at 4160 Millersville Road, Indianapolis, IN, on a rental basis. Ebenezer stands for “stone of help,” and it was just that! This is the night we were given our church name – CHRIST CHURCH APOSTOLIC!

The Mission of Christ Church Apostolic
To be a life-giving ministry that reflects Jesus Christ and His Kingdom.

The Vision of Christ Church Apostolic
Create Community. Cultivate Purpose. Commission Disciples.

The vision of Christ Church Apostolic is to be a multicultural, multigenerational, multifaceted, multiplying church. We see a ministry that engages in healthy spiritual formation and educates its members into God’s original thought for their lives. We see a safe place for people to be saved, discipled, healed, and grow. Our passion is to be the picture of a New Testament church in spirit, excellence, and community.
